June Amara, owner of Creative Window Treatments, is so confident in the satisfaction of her clients that she will happily give any one of their names as a reference. And her customers are obviously quite satisfied, because for six years, the business has expanded mostly through word-of-mouth advertising.
Creative Window Treatments does everything from initial window coverings like plantation shutters, blinds and shades to decorative coverings like draperies, valances, cornices, bedding, pillows and upholstery. Their employees are constantly educating themselves, researching the latest equipment and evaluating workroom and showroom procedures. They also regularly attend demonstrations, reviewing and analyzing new products and fabrics to improve and enhance the craftsmanship of their products. Amara believes Creative Window Treatments owes it to their customers to be as inventive and innovative as possible.
Creative Window Treatments has been nominated twice for the Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business of the Year Award. They are also celebrating their sixth year as a Hunter Douglas Priority Dealer. In January 2009, the business moved to 254 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd. in Punta Gorda, purchasing and renovating a building to create the ideal space for both showroom and workroom.
Amara studied fashion merchandising and design at Marymount College as well as in New York City and London. She worked as a buyer for Lord and Taylor and as a National Sales Manager for Perry Ellis International before settling in Punta Gorda in 2000. She opened Creative Window Treatments in 2003 with a vision of innovative design and customer satisfaction. “Let Our Vision Enhance Your View” is Creative Window Treatments’ motto, and their treatments are designed to enhance both a room’s interior and the view outside. When designing treatments, several factors must be considered:
- In-home visits: Understanding the customer’s personal style is key to designing the perfect window treatments. Additionally, home visits allow designers to learn the unique requirements of each client and the space to be used.
- Fabric selection: Designers must determine the proper balance and depth of color, texture and pattern along with the weight and drape of each fabric when designing treatments. Fabric selections can make or break a room’s décor.
- Treatment selection: Window treatments should accentuate a client’s view, not overpower it, Amara said. The designers take existing décor, personal style, functionality, privacy and light control into account when creating the perfect window treatment. Proper balance and scale within a room pull together the décor without overwhelming it.
- Detailed installation and placement: Installation is where everything finally comes together. Treatments are placed in proper position relative to the windows’ width and height. Window treatments should open up a space, not overpower it. From multimillion-dollar homes to one-bedroom condos, Creative Window Treatments’ goal is to make every customer feel as if they are the business’s only client.
